Staying out late in Glacier National Park often provides an evening to remember. We recommend packing extra food and drinks, or snag a coffee or ice cream in Apgar Village so you can stay out in the wilderness and experience a Montana sunset! The spots below will give you some inspiration. Wild North Guides offers guided sunset tours of Glacier Country, giving you a stress free, relaxing evening soaking in Montana's natural wonders.
McGee Meadow
This glacial fen has spectacular grasses blowing in the wind and distant mountain views, creating a golden, one-of-a-kind sunset setting. This is a perfect 15-minute spot to walk down to the meadow, listening for singing crickets and surrounding wildlife.
Hidden Lake Shore (minimum 5.3 mile hike, round trip)
This route is for the more adventurous, and we recommend you bring headlamps, a mapping app, and bear spray for this endeavor! Hike about 1.5 hours to reach Hidden Lake Shore and relish the deep blues of the lake and the towering peaks. Maybe you'll even talk yourself into going for a swim! Once it’s dark enough for your liking, hike uphill out of Hidden Lake and down to Logan Pass.
Shoreline near Rising Sun Boat Dock
Ample parking is available later in the evening at the Rising Sun Boat Dock. Wander down to the water of Saint Mary Lake and choose a peaceful beach spot for your group.
Big Bend
This pull-off (with a bathroom) on Going-to-the-Sun Road is just uphill from the Weeping Wall. There is a very short hike, expansive mountain views, and waterfalls to enjoy! Bring a chair to set up and get comfortable, or back your vehicle into a spot and create a National Park drive-in movie set-up!
Choose your own adventure!!!
Get creative and plan ahead during the day, keeping an eye out for the perfect sunset spot for your group! Consider how far it is from your vehicle so you can be prepared with any gear, snacks, or extra layers you might need.
